The Zoquistians

The Zoquistians are biplanar, extradimensional beings without fixed physical bodies. When they interact with the Material Plane, they project manifestations shaped through thought and psionic force.

From their natural state they cannot normally manipulate physical matter directly, and conventional physical harm does not affect them while manifested. Psionic interaction is another matter.

They travel Astral Space in clusters rather than ships, moving together through the currents somewhat like jellyfish. Their minds are deeply interconnected, and their philosophy begins from a simple idea: life exists to experience existence, in as many forms as possible.

Phineas’s first contact was with a Zoquistian whose designation is approximated in spoken language as Lazar. Lazar reached through the veil because a material ally was in trouble and needed physical assistance. Phineas happened to be nearby. There was no prophecy, no chosen one, and no grand destiny involved. He helped because help was needed.

Later, the Zoquistians modified his ship and created the Psi Drive. Through psionic contact they imparted enough understanding for Phineas to operate and maintain portions of it, but not enough for him to truly understand everything they had done.

“Right place, right time. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy—at least that's what they say.”— Phineas, on why the Zoquistians chose him
